Over the past decade or so the entire world is facing major environmental issues and energy crisis. A sustainable environment ensures availability of resources to the present and future generations. A major source of energy to the present day world are the fossil fuel but they are depleting at an exponential rate.
The main objective of this conference is to bring to limelight, the emerging arenas of research and development in the energy and environment sector. It will provide a favorable platform to discuss the pros and cons, opportunities together with the risks involved in sustainability of innovation in the global energy scenario. It provides a forum for distinguished guest speakers and practitioners to address recent research results and to present and discuss related issues in energy and environment. The conference will be a forum for new ideas and concepts and will STEER the students and researchers into a new spectrum of study.

This conference also aims to delve into the various aspects of environmental and energy engineering and also study the several stand points where the principles of Chemical engineering can be applied. We hope that this conference will open the minds of the students to explore innovative applications of Chemical Engineering. This conference is highly inter-disciplinary and relevant papers and posters are invited.
About IIChE SSN Student Chapter
IIChE is a confluence of streams of professionals from academia, research institutes and industry. It provides them the appropriate forum for joint endeavors, hand in hand, to work for human well being through application of chemical engineering and allied sciences. Today, with around 15,000 members on its roll, the Institute has emerged as the apex professional body of chemical engineering professionals in India and has developed a distinct profile of its own which is everchanging. Student members pursuing under-graduate degrees in Chemical Engineering form Student Chapters, under the auspices of the respective Regional Centres. The Student Chapters also arrange lectures, seminars, short courses, plant visits, etc., at regular intervals to better equip and empower the students when they come out of their academic precincts. Academic activities apart, Student Chapters organize cultural events and sports activities for their members.
Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers- SSN Student chapter was initiated in the year 2007 by Dr.PVR Iyer, registrar IIChE, Dean, PG Studies, Sri Venkateshwara college of Engineering and Mr.S.Ashok Kumar Rajh, Manager, Technical cell, Alexandria Carbon Black Limited, Egypt delivered the inagural address.The chapter has been very active since then ,having organised guest lectures, workshops, industrial visits for the benefit of the students. Sustainable Trends in Energy and Environmental Resources (STEER) is its first ever national level conference in this field.
About SSN College of Engineering
SSN COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING was founded by Dr. Shiv Nadar, Chairman, HCL Technologies and is one of the most renowned colleges in India. The institutions, with its diverse and dynamic community of students offer a distinctive combination of some of the finest graduate, undergraduate and research programs, accomplished faculty, world class facilities and a residential campus set on a sprawling 250 acres of sylvan surroundings. The college ranks top among all the private colleges in Tamil Nadu. The department of Chemical Engineering was established in the academic year 2004-05 at SSN with a sanctioned student intake of 30 and affiliated to Anna University. The total number of faculty members in the department is eight, and having the faculty to student ratio of 1:11. The faculties are qualified from institutions of repute and most of them with Ph.D. qualification The research areas of the faculty are i) Natural product extraction ii) Sol-Gel synthesis iii) Energy Management iv) Nano-technology v) Hydrotropy and vi) Biosorption.
